Press Release: Prism Sound & SADiE are running a Great African Tour, based on their highly successful ‘Mic to Monitor’ tours that have seen audiences in the professional production world benefit from experiences of the professionals throughout the UK, America and South Africa.
The pan-African tour will comprise three phases: radio drama and features production in Nairobi and Rwanda, music and broadcast production in Capetown and Johannesburg, and broadcasting workshops, surgeries and presentations in Ghana.
The first phase encompasses two events hosted at Shujaaz FM in Nairobi, Kenya on 7th November, and Urunana DC in Kigali, Rwanda on 9th November.
Shujaaz FM in Nairobi is a youth-orientated project that has the biggest print publication in Kenya as well as a syndicated radio soap. Set up as part of the Well Told Story project, more details can be found at www.shujaazfm.com.
In Rwanda, ‘Health Poverty Action’s’ ground-breaking, flagship radio soap ‘Urunana’ (Hand-in-Hand) has been broadcast by the BBC World Service and Radio Rwanda since it was established in 1997. The Urunana studios will be the venue for the Rwanda leg, more details on the SADiE website and at www.urunanadc.org.
Both these events will feature UK-based BBC radio programme maker, Peter Nash, bringing a rich mixture of drama-documentary making and high-end feature production, with many BBC programme examples for the workshops. Open to all, updates on both these events, and a free registration process, can be found at www.sadie.com.
The second-phase sees SADiE’s return to South Africa with four separate information-packed events, two music and two broadcast focussed. The venues are planned to be at SABC’s studios in Johannesburg 10th & 11th November and Capetown on 14th & 15th November.
Attendees at both these venues will experience two evenings under the title ‘Suspending Disbelief’. The first will be music production focused, featuring both studio and location recording, with Sound on Sound’s Hugh Robjohns as special guest discussing studio acoustics, monitoring and microphones, as well as Pete Nash on mastering issues and the recent recording of Roger Waters’ ‘The Wall’ live in Athens.
The second will be looking at creativity in broadcasting - high-end feature making, drama production and lessons learned from the BBC’s digital integration in radio. Panel discussions will conclude each of the evenings’ sessions and will comprise Pete Nash, Hugh Robjohns and Akim Mogaji from the CBA, with delegates coming away with goodie bags and there will be 200 copies of Sound On Sound magazine to give away!
The third phase of the tour is in association with the Commonwealth Broadcasting Association and Ghana Broadcasting Corporation and is following immediately on from the Electronic Media Forum in Ghana.
Running from 17th – 22nd November, the ‘Live in Accra’ event will be held at Ghana’s National Film & Television Institute and will comprise workshops, presentations and surgeries from a number of organisations including the British Council, CBA and of course SADiE.
For more details on all these events, details of how to attend and free registration, please see the ‘Great Africa Tour’ event page on the SADiE website: www.sadie.com.
The SADiE/CBA Great African Tour is presented in association with Health Poverty Action, Shujaaz FM, Commonwealth Broadcasting Association, Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, British Council and National Film & Television Institute, Ghana and the Prism Sound Group.
